The One Thing to Check Before You Let Anyone Paint Your Home

So you got your new BTO keys, or maybe just want to give the old flat a new look, lah. So exciting! But you know the one thing I cannot stand?

The new paint smell.

Gives me a headache, sia. For weeks, you have to keep the windows wide open, but the chemical smell just lingers. And you start to wonder, "Is this stuff even safe to breathe in every day?" Especially if you have kids running around or someone with allergies at home. Aiyoh, the worry.

For the longest time, I thought "green" products were just some marketing gimmick. You know, pay more for something that doesn't work as well. The term Eco friendly Paint made me think of dull colours and paint that would peel off in a year. No, thanks.

But recently, I was helping my friend choose colours for her new place, and she was going on about "low VOC" and "healthy paint." I thought she was just being extra, but I went to Google lor, and started digging into this whole Dulux Sustainability thing.

Turns out, it's not just about saving the planet from afar. A lot of it is about us. Right here. Inside our own homes.

The main thing is that these newer paints have way fewer of those smelly chemical things (they call them VOCs). Less smell means less headache and, more importantly, cleaner air inside your flat. It’s not just Eco friendly Paint for the sake of a label; it’s people-friendly paint. It makes so much sense, right? Why would we want to breathe in harsh chemicals where we sleep and eat?

I found their page on the Dulux Sustainability efforts quite interesting. It’s not just fluffy words; they explain how they're trying to make paints that are safer for us and produce less waste. It's good to know that a big company is actually thinking about this stuff. You can see for yourself how they're making changes.

So now, when I think about painting, my mindset has totally changed. It's not just about picking a pretty colour anymore. It's about choosing something that won't make my family sick. And if it helps the planet a little bit too? Win-win, what.

Small change, but makes a big difference to your peace of mind, can?
