Simple Steps to Painting Your Bannister and Stairs

Step 1: Prepare the Area

Take out any furniture, decorative items, or rugs around the stairway. If you have carpet/tack down runners, you will need to take those out too. Place newspaper or dust sheets on any surrounding surfaces to catch any paint that might drip on them. Use masking tape to protect edges.


Step 2: Fix Any Nails or Holes

Look around and check for nails or tacks that might be sticking out. If you find any, take your hammer and gently tap them in further into the wood. Fill holes with wood filler to get the surfaces smooth.


Step 3: Sand the Surface
